We are leaders in flow cell design.
No other company offers such a variety of flow cells as FIAlab instruments. Based on 20 years of experience our quartz fiber optics are integrated with a wide range of flow cell designs, detectors and light sources. The flow through cells with carefully minimized internal volumes are designed to be compatible with all flow injection and sequential injection instruments and are suitable for the following instrumental techniques:
UV-VIS Spectroscopy
Fluorescence
Chemiluminescence;
Electroanalytical methods
Flow cells are available in a variety of materials:
Plexiglas, PEEK, ULTEM, and stainless steel. Since Plexiglas is fully transparent and ULTEM partially transparent, we recommend them because the light path of the flow cells made from these materials can be visually inspected at all times.
The FIAlab SMA-Z Flowcell is constructed from Teflon, Perspex, ULTEM, PEEK or high grade stainless steel. We recommend Perspex or ULTEM since the flow through the cells and illumination can be inspected visually at any time.
The SMA-Z Cell's optical path length is available in 2.5, 5, 10, 50, 100 mm. This is the most frequently used flowcell for UV-VIS Spectrophotometry.
The LP Long Path Flowcells are available with 5 to 50cm optical paths, with an internal volume of 4 microliters per 1 cm of length. The LP flowcells are ideally suited for very low level nutrient and trace element assays.. The flowcell allows absorbance measurements within 400 nm to 1000 range. Wetting surfaces are Fused Silica, Viton®, and PEEK. Contains no Teflon AF.
The Ultra Short Path Flowcell
The SMA-USP Ultra-Short Path Flowcell are designed for absorbance measurements of concentrated solutions, such as dyes or other optically dense fluids.. The optical path lengths can be chosen from 100 microns to 2000 microns. The SMA-USP flowcell is made from Spectrosil® Quartz and is ideal for monitoring within 170 nm to 2700 nm range. Eliminates or minimizes the need for pre-dilutions during online monitoring. Wetting surfaces are Fused Silica and Teflon.
The Fluorescence Flowcell
The SMA-Fluorescence Flowcell contains fused silica windows as wetting surfaces at each fiber optic junction. The recommended material for this flow cell is Black Ultem. The flow cell design is compatible with SMA-terminated fiber optics. The windows are removable for cleaning or replacement with another material with different optical bandpass properties. Each cell comes with Upchurch fittings, tubing, and instructions.
Traditional flow through quartz cuvettes are also available.
LOV - the Universal Flowcell
The flow cell integrated within the LOV module has four
outlets that can accommodate optical fibers in axial
( UV-VIS spectrophotometry) or right angle (fluorescence or chemiluminesce) configurations. For UV-VIS spectrophotometry the light path length can be selected between 0.1 and 50cm. Alternatively, the outlets can be used to accommodate electrodes for conductimetry and voltammetry.
The Sandwich Gas Membrane Sensor
The FIAlab SMFC furnished with a hydrophobic membrane is
designed for analysis of volatiles and gases ( ammonia, sulfur
dioxide, carbon dioxide, hydrogen sulphide, hydrogen
cyanide/cyanides, ammines, formaldehyde, etc).
The membrane cell is available as stand alone or as shown
here, integrated with a pair of optical fibers for UV-VIS
spectrophotometric assays. It is compatible with FIAlab 2502sp and FIAlab 3200 systems and, with addition of a syringe pump used to propel the acceptor stream also with FIAlab 2500, FIAlab 2600, and microSI-LOV systems. For additional information consult Gas Diffusion Techniques and Gas Diffusion Methods.
The ISEM-FC is designed to accommodate Ion Selective Combination Electrodes, such as the VWR® sympHony® Fluoride Ion Selective Combination Electrode. The standard ISEM-FC flowcell is built to handle an electrode with a 1/2 inch diameter. Other sizes are available (e.g., 12 mm), please specify. The flowcell internal volume is approximately 200 microliters, making it compatible with
FIAlab 2500 and FIAlab 2600 instruments.
